Are you a certified online teacher?
I'm in the final hours of finishing up my certification in online teaching from Online Learning Consortium (formerly Sloan Consortium). To get the certification, I had to take a foundations course (10 weeks) followed by three different week-long intensive workshops covering various topics related to teaching and learning in an online context.
The foundations course I took was led by Dr. Kristen Betts, for whom I gained a lot of respect very early in the course. She's an expert in online personal touch (cf. this and this). The workshops I took were:
- Effective Feedback Strategies
- Engaging Learners in Online Discussions
- Strategies for Increasing Interaction and Engagement
The program has been very good and, I believe, the certification is valuable. If you are an online teacher or trainer of online teachers (or both, like me), I strongly encourage you to take a look at this certificate program.
