Second LST Party
Last Wednesday evening we had our second social event for our Let's Start Talking project in Hildesheim, Germany. These events are designed to get our readers and the church members together so they can meet each other and, frankly, to have some fun! Eighteen people attended, and it was all in English (so our readers could practice conversation).
For this party we had a game night. We began the evening with an ice-breaker for which everyone had to tell two true things about themselves and one false thing. Then the rest of the group had to vote on which things were true and false. It turned out to be a good way to start; we learned a lot about people and laughed a good bit, too.
As far as games go, we set up a Scrabble table, a Jenga table, a couple of tables with different card games, and outside a space to play a couple rounds of "Ninja" (I had never heard of it, but my son, who is learning Taekwondo, sure loved it). Don Roehrkasse, one of the missionaries/ministers at Gemeinde Christi, taught me a new card game—new to me anyway. For those of you do don't know me, I don't typically play card games. They're just not my thing. Anyway, one of the things that really annoys my wife is that uncannily often I win card games the first time I learn to play them. Sure enough, I won the first hand. Then . . . well, let's just say I should've quit while I was ahead. :) I also played Jenga with a group of others. I haven't played Jenga in forever. I had forgotten how fun and nerve wracking it can be! Good times.
Overall, it was a very good night; people seemed to have a good time and our readers did very well with their English. Here are a few photos (and one short video) of some of the fun.
