Update on Mom (Oct 16)
Yesterday was a good day for Mom. The short story is that they moved her OUT of ICU and into a regular room at MercyOne Des Moines (the one on 6th avenue downtown). This is a great sign that she is doing much better. The nursing staff get her up and walking on a regular basis to help her regain some strength. She has some bruising, which is no surprise given that she's on a Heparin drip, but the docs are monitoring that closely as they hone the dosage.
There's talk like they may send her to a rehab center in Perry, perhaps by the end of this week. I will keep you posted on that. How long she will be in the rehab center is unclear at this point (my vote is for a minimum of 10 days to 2 weeks—she needs to be in a place where she will be on regular rehab schedule so she can get her strength back). I am waiting for a call or email from Jacob the social worker who, as I understand it, is setting all that up (or has set it up). We will go see her today, and I hope to get a clearer understanding of what the actual/real plans are.
Thank you for your continued prayers on Mom's behalf.
