My basic teaching (and learning) philosophy
There’s a bit of debate as to whether the following quotation is from John Dewey or Bill Beattie, but regardless, it summarizes nicely and concisely my own thinking about the purpose of teaching and learning.
The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think—rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with the thoughts of other men [sic].
I read the quotation in C. Crumly, et. al., Pedagogies for Student-Centered Learning Online and On-Ground, 104.
